Samoan athletes using the country’s premier sports stadium, Apia Park, are facing unhygienic conditions after the water supply was disconnected, allegedly since January.

The stadium is used by athletics training having the only proper running track in the country and national rugby teams have also been training there.

The National Tennis courts are also part of the sporting complex and also face a water problem in more ways than one.

“In the junior tennis program we have children that are under 12 years old and if it is an eight year, they really cant hold it,” said sports coach Ah Chong Sam Chong.

The Samoa Observer said the Samoa Sports Facility Authority is blaming non payment of water bills incurred by the 2019 Pacific Games Organizing Committee.

Falefata Hela Matatia, former CEO of the Games Office said all Pacific Games bills were paid before the office closed down permanently in December.

The Park is due for its first international fixture of the year next week with the Oceania Rugby Under 20 Trophy match between Samoa and Tonga.
