Passersby were surprised to see a group of students at Manumalo Academy this morning and asked if the private school is reopened.
When we called the school, we were referred to Papalii Laulii Alofa.
He said Manumalo is still closed but they’ve asked students needing help to come and see teachers for a review of their school work during the closure.
He said it’s been a month since classes were suspended and this is a chance for students who need help with instructions to get it from teachers.
He said students are coming in to pick their lunches so when they turn up, those who need help with school work can meet with their teachers.
According to Papalii, they are targeting their high school students especially.
He said their school has only 8 seniors and those students need to apply for college and scholarships.
He said teachers are making sure there are only 10 students in a classroom, in keeping with the social distancing rule for coronavirus.
KHJ News pointed out that the emergency declaration specifically closes all schools, public and private, and asked Papalii if he doesn’t think this move is in violation of the declaration.
He said Manumalo is closed so they’re not in violation.
