The Samoa Government has extended the COVID-19 State of Emergency until August 30, 2020.

The decision was made this week by Cabinet and signed into law by the Head of State Tuimalealiifano Vaaletoa Sualauvi II after consultation with Cabinet.

A statement released by the Government Press Secretariat said current SOE orders will remain in place except for a single amendment.

With regards to public gatherings, ceremonies for the bestowal of matai titles are now permitted on condition of social distance observance and attendance is restricted to 50 couples.

Traditional groups from around the country or tapuaiga are not permitted to attend and relatives living overseas will not be allowed to attend.

The new measures go into effect today.
