Fijians who’ve made their home in American Samoa, are celebrating 50 years of their country’s independence tomorrow at Lions Park.
October 10, 1970 was when Fiji attained independence from Britain and since then Fiji Day is celebrated each year.
The late Mr Jimmy Sword who was perhaps the territory’s most prominent Fijian citizen started the Fiji Day celebrations in American Samoa.
The 50th Fiji Day tomorrow will bring together Fijians and those with Fijian connections to fellowship and commemorate this milestone event for their country, as two of the organizers Dr Eminoni Dakua and Liz Toafa explains.
