Samoa needs at least another 400 trained nurses.

That is the view of the President of the Samoa Nurses Association, Solialofi Papalii, during an interview with TV1Samoa at a special ceremony to farewell 33 retiring nurses.

Sixteen of the retired nurses had served beyond the retiring age of 65 years, some serving for more than 50 years in the nursing profession.

According to Papalii, there are 432 nurses currently working for the Samoa Ministry of Health but more are needed if they are to provide the quality of nursing required.

Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi was on hand to thank the nurses for their service. Especially during the trying times brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.
