Governor Lemanu to deliver inaugural State of Territory Address

Governor Lemanu Peleti Mauga is to deliver his first State of the Territory address at a joint session of the 37th Legislature this morning at the Lee Auditorium beginning at 10am.

House Speaker Savali Talavou Ale will lead the opening ceremony. Rev. Leitualasa Malieitulua of the CCCAS Nu’uuli will offer prayers and the choir from his congregation will sing the hymns.

Though this is only the second week of the Lemanu-Talauega administration, Governor Lemanu is prepared to deliver his inaugural State of the Territory speech which will give lawmakers and the public a snapshot of the American Samoa Government’s finances as well as the territory’s economy, challenges and goals for the year.

In addition, the governor will outline any legislation to be submitted to the Fono for review.

Senate President Tuaolo M Fruean

Senate President Tuaolo Manaia Fruean is on the program to give a response to the Governor’s address.

Tuaolo told KHJ News he will say something about the status of the new Fono building, efforts to clean up the Legislature’s image and also advise Lemanu and Talauega to heed the advice of the medical community regarding the repatriation of stranded residents.

The first regular session of the 37th Legislature is expected to be a busy one as lawmakers have to review the Fiscal Year 2021 budget and hold confirmation hearings for directors.
