A veteran educator whose career spans nearly four decades has accepted an appointment as principal of Faasao Marist High School.
She is Dr.Lina Galeai-Scanlan, who was most recently an advisor to the President of the American Samoa Community College.
Bishop Peter Brown in announcing Dr Galeai-Scanlan’s appointment said, “Catholic Education welcomes this senior educator of American Samoa. She brings with her vast experience of 38 years in teaching and school management through high school and college levels. We are delighted to have Dr Scanlan as leader in our education team, providing quality education to our students.”
The new principal is a member of the first graduating class of what used to be an all girl‘s Catholic school Faasao High School. She was class valedictorian. Faasao later merged with the all boys Catholic school, Marist Brothers, Malaeloa.
She is a former principal of the school and was Director of Catholic Education under now retired Bishop John Quinn Weitzel.
Dr Galeai-Scanlan joined ASCC in 2006 and retired last summer as executive assistant to the college president.
Some of her positions at ASCC include Vice President of Administration & Finance, Vice President of Academics and Student Affairs and Director/Dean of Teacher Education.
Her Doctorate is from Capella University, she has a Masters degree from the University of San Francisco, a Masters of Education from University of Hawaii and
a Bachelor’s St Mary’s College Brentwood, California.
She replaces Lentoy Matagi who resigned due to medical reasons.
