Six athletes to represent AS in Tokyo Olympics

Six athletes and more than five officials will represent American Samoa at the 2021 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. The athletes have been in training at various states and countries and will meet in Tokyo before the games opening on July 23rd.

Only 4 of the five officials accompanying the team are traveling from American Samoa on tomorrow’s flight to Honolulu.

President of the American Samoa Samoa National Olympic Committee Ed Imo says we have qualified for four sports.

The athletes are:

  • Nathan Crumpton in track and field
  • Tilali Scanlan and Micah Masei in swimming
  • Tanu Jungblut in weightlifting
  • Adrian Hoesh and Tyler Paige in sailing

The officials traveling from American Samoa are Imo, his wife Meafou who will be an attaché for the delegation, and coaches/officials Monica Afalava for weightlifting and Sonny Sanitoa for track and field.

Chef de Mission Kent Yamada and other coaches/officials will be joining them.
