Twenty-three year old Kauhani Fuimaono was the judges’ choice to be the 2021-2022 Miss American Samoa. She won the crown over four other contestants Friday night at the Lee Auditorium.
Sponsored by Pago Pago Trading Company, Morris Scanlan Service Station, GIAS and Maliu Mai, Kauhani won most of the pageant categories:Miss Internet, Miss Photogenic, Best-Pre Pageant Interview, Best Ava Presentation, Best Sarong and Best Stage Interview.
Her question on pageant night: “Our children are our island’s future , if you were crowned Miss American Samoa tonight, what is one lesson you were born to teach our territory’s young people?”
Her answer:”As we continue to raise our children in this beautiful land, we must help them remember their roots. They are of great worth and continue to embrace their culture, language, dance, speaking, and especially
Kauhani chose as her platform, mental health.
The 1st runner up was Orepa Talo, who was sponsored by Cecilia’s Restaurant. The former weightlifter medalist chose as her platform, empowering plus size women.
Orepa won Best Talent, MASI Award, Best Siva Samoa and Best Traditionally Inspired Wear.
2nd runner up was Fiatagata Johnson, sponsored by her parents, Paul and Fiatagata Johnson.
The other contestants were Melody Chang and Soloia Taafua.
