
The ruling Faatuatua I le Atua Samoa ua Tasi party has secured 4 of the six seats contested in the by-elections last Friday following the official count today which included special and pre polled votes.
The Human Rights Protection Party however has not only maintained the two seats it won on by-election night but it has also secured the required extra two female seats needed to make up the six female members under the Constitution.
The writs of appointment for the 8 new parliamentarians were signed by the Head of State, Tuimalealiifano Vaaletoa Sualauvi II, last evening.
Former MP Aiono Tile Gafa of the HRPP has been confirmed as the new member for A’ana Alofi 2 constituency.
The seat for Sagaga 2 has been won by HRPP’s Maulolo Tavita Amosa.
Tagaloatele Pasi Poloa, has won the Sagaga 4 seat for the FAST party and Laumatiamanu Ringo Purcell has taken the Safata 2 seat also for FAST.
The Aleipata-itupa-i-lalo seat has been won by former Manu Samoa coach Faleomavaega Titimaea Tafua for FAST as has Falealili 2 candidate Maiava Fuimaono Asafo.
The extra two female seats required under the Constitution have been won by the HRPP and will see the return to Parliament of Aliimalemanu Alofa Tu’u’au and newcomer Fa’agaseali’I Sapo’a Feagia’i.
FAST will now have 31 seats in the House, including the new member for Falealupo, Fuiono Tenina Crichton, who was unopposed after the HRPP candidate was disqualified by the Supreme Court.
The opposition HRPP will have 22 seats.
