The group of medical professionals from the NuWest Group, who were hired by the LBJ hospital to help with the surge in COVID cases, are leaving the territory at the end of their contracts.
However, according to the LBJ Hospital CEO, Moefaauo William Emmsley, they are not able to find seats on outgoing Hawaiian Airlines flights.
NuWest Group is an employment agency based in Washington State which provides medical and other staffing for clients.
Moefaauo said, during the weekly press conference of the Task Force yesterday that LBJ is seeking the help of the Lt. Governor and Attorney General in this regard. He said, he is leaving the request with Talauega.
More than 30 medical professionals including physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists and other staff, were hired from NuWest and they’ve been working at LBJ Hospital—in various clinics but mainly the ER.
A medical source told KHJ News that if there’s no flight to take the NuWest group home, it would cost more to have them work while awaiting a flight.
It’s understood that ASG is looking for flight options at this point.
