American Samoa’s covid-related death toll :30

There has been one additional Covid-19 related death.

The latest fatality was a 102 yr old man who passed away over the weekend.

He was unvaccinated.

The tally of covid-related deaths is now 30.

The May 9 report by the Department of Health to the Covid-19 Task Force shows 5,930 confirmed cases, of which only 142 remain active. The rest have recovered.

The number of covid cases in Manu’a is 32; 19 in Faleasao Village and 13 in Ta’u Village.

Other villages at the top of the active cases chart are Leone and Nuuuli with 15 each and Tafuna with 13.

On Monday following the many gatherings for Mother’s Day, 588 Covid tests were conducted by DOh and the LBJ Hospital. 17 of those tests were positive.

The vaccination coverage is 84.4% fully vaccinated and 66.6% have received boosters.

This past weekend, it seemed like there were no more covid rules with packed stores, full restaurants, traffic jams, packed church services for Mothers Day and people without masks and no social distancing,

KHJ News has received complaints about the apparent lax of enforcement or the emergency declaration rules and what some says are special treatment for some individuals and business owners.

We asked the Chairman of the Covid-19 Task Force during their weekly oress conference if ther have been any fines for violation of emergency declaration rules for Covid.
