GHC Reid & Company, local agents for Vailima Beer and other products made by Samoa Breweries Ltd, foresees Vailima in a can with the brewery moving its operation to Fiji.

General Manager Cherith Lober-Soliai said, in response to KHJ News questions about the closing of the Samoa brewer, that discussions are still underway between Samoa Brewery Ltd (SBL) and Paradise Beverages of Fiji management.

GHC Reid will continue to receive Vailima Beer in bottles from Samoa Breweries Ltd, until their bottling plant closes.

She said, having Vailima in cans has been GHC Reid’s ask from SBL for many years; and the Fiji plant has the capacity to provide this packaging.

As for costs, she said, that it’s too early to comment on product costs as Fiji has yet to start its production of Vailima beers. She acknowledged that Fiji’s production costs will play a major role on the final landed cost in American Samoa.

Currently, SBL supplies GHC Reid — Vailima Extra Strong, Vailima Pure, Vailima Lite in 750ml and 355ml bottles as well as Vailima Kegs.

The other brewery in Samoa is owned by the Ah Liki family and makes Taula Beer, which is believed to have overtaken Vailima in the Samoa market.
