The special paint for the new courts at Lions Park has arrived from New Zealand but the contractor, Pentagon, says it needs to be sure of two weeks of no rain before it can start marking the courts.

Taupau Tauleave Toluono says, the outdoor courts require special paint for longevity and he consulted with Craig Construction — who painted the playcourts for the Pacific Games in Samoa and recommended that he order the paint from New Zealand.

The Pentagon President said, the shipment arrived earlier this week and they are now waiting for the rains to pass before marking the courts.

He said, the courts have to be completely dry before they can start on the job.

Meanwhile, Parks and Recreation Director Ken Tupua told KHJ News last week that the courts are being used for trainings; but they are not available for any organized tournaments until they have been marked.

There’s a basketball, netball, volleyball and pickleball court, plus a sand court for various sports.
