The results of the 2022 midterm election are now official.
Chief Election Officer Dr. Lealofi Uiagalelei certified the results after the deadline for filing challenges expired at 4:30pm yesterday.
There were no challenges filed.
The official results issued yesterday by the Election Office, are the same as the unofficial results released the day after the election for the Congressional and American Samoa House of Representatives races.
But there were slight changes in the results of the referendum on the 11 proposed constitutional amendments, which did not change the passage or disapproval of the amendments as reported last Wednesday morning.
The proposed amendments which were approved:
- Gives the delegate from Swains Island the right to vote in the House of Representatives; 56% voted yes.
- Provides an impeachment process for the Governor and Lt Governor; 61% voted yes.
- Changes the name of Government of American Samoa to American Samoa Government; 58% voted yes.
- Changes Ma’uputasi to Ma’oputasi; 58% voted yes.
- Changes Leasina to Leasina ma Aitulagi; 56% voted yes.
Voter turn out, which is based on the number of ballots casts for the congressional race, was 6,637 or 46% of the total number of registered voters, which was 14,313.
