Afamasaga Dr. Talifa Talifa has been cleared to sit on the Board of Directors of the LBJ Hospital Authority. He was confirmed by the Senate yesterday, following a brief hearing.

The dentist has worked at the Department of Health and the LBJ Hospital for 41 years and retired last year.

Senators praised him for his long and dedicated service and said that his experience and knowledge, from his many years of working in the health sector, would be an asset to the hospital board.

They also commended Afamasaga for his devotion to his church, as a member of the Fagaalu CCCAS.

Senate President Tuaolo Manaia Fruean asked Afamasaga for his opinion on a new hospital. He responded that having a new hospital would help alleviate the crowds and long waiting at the LBJ Hospital, especially with new diseases.

Tuaolo followed up, asking, if there are not enough doctors how would a new hospital help?

Afamasaga said, if all doctors and support staff work together things will improve.

All ten senators present at yesterday’s Senate session voted yes to confirm Afamasaga. He replaces Tamasoalii Dr. Joseph Tufa whose term has expired.

Other board members are Chairman, Dr. Malouamaua Tuiolosega, Dr. Jean Anderson, Fonoti Jessop and Rep. Faimealelei Anthony Allen.
