For many decades, one of the traditions of Christmas in American Samoa every year was the Scanlan Family Christmas Show on KVZK-TV.
One of the territory’s best known musical families, Mulipola Herbert and Tiumalu Sia
Scanlan and children, among them the late Aliimau Jr. Scanlan, daughter Mary Anderson and another accomplished musician son, Bernard, produced a family show for Christmas.
The show included all the Scanlan children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
The family matriarch Tiumalu Sia Scanlan passed away last year, and in remembrance of her and to officially end the Scanlan Family Christmas Program, Bernard Scanlan recorded a few carols to be aired on KVZK-TV’s Christmas programming. KHJ News was invited along during the recording at the Scanlan home in Malaeimi.
Bernard says, this is a thank you to American Samoa for their continuous support and for tuning in every year to watch their Scanlan Family Christmas Show.
