A scientist who worked at the NOAA Observatory in Tula, Christina Hammock Koch, is making her second trip into space. She was announced as a mission specialist for the Artemis II mission next year.

On December 28, 2019, Koch broke the record for longest continuous time in space by a woman. While in space, she took a shot of earth with the flag of American Samoa in the foreground and posted it on her Facebook page.

During a visit to the territory, after her first journey into space, Christina talked to students, mostly girls, about her career as an astronaut.

She mentioned that canoe paddling in American Samoa kept her in physical shape and ready for her future job as an astronaut.
