The founder and leader of the Samoa based Worship Center Christian Church Worldwide, Apostle Viliamu Mafoe, passed away earlier this week.

Apostle Mafo’e, according to the Worship Center Christian Church, established the church in Samoa in 1997 after receiving a “vision” from God while serving as the director of Youth For Christ (Y.F.C.) Samoa.

Despite being in a wheelchair, Apostle Mafoe was present at the official opening of the Worship Centre Christian Church Worldwide’s state-of-the-art SAT$20 million church building and headquarters in May, last year.

When he first established the church over two decades ago, Apostle Mafo’e led services that were held—from time to time—in tents and places like the Government gym, Apia Park and Tuanaimato, Fale o Tina (Women Ministries buildings), sometimes in open space like in front of the Government Building.

“As the people’s faith was being built up and grew over a period of 20-plus years, the man of God, obeying the leading of the holy spirit, gave vision to leaders to build a prayer house at Nafanua, Papauta, on a lease property, then a radio and television station, then a missionary school to further the reach and meet the vision and mission of the church,” reads a statement on the church’s website.

The building of the prayer house at Nafanua gave birth to further expansion of the church to Upolu, Savai’i, and now to overseas, New Zealand, Australia, American Samoa, USA, India and recently, South Africa.
