Beginning with tonight’s Hawaiian Airlines flight from Honolulu, the airline is weighing passengers on the Honolulu/Pago Pago route for its passenger weight survey.

The survey is being done to update airline data as required by the Federal Aviation Administration says airline spokesman Alex Da Silva.

This is also being done for passengers from Honolulu to Japan and South Korea, said Da Silva.

The last passenger weight survey for Hawaiian was conducted a year ago.

According to the airline, it is important to calculate accurate weight and balance and, therefore, the center of gravity of an aircraft for safe, efficient flight.

An advisory that the airline circulated provides guidance on how to develop and receive approval for a weight and balance control program for certain types of aircraft.

It also includes guidance for using average and estimated weights for passengers.
