Patients who’ve been seen by the LDS missionary doctors have appreciated the level of care and one on one interaction with them.

The current missionaries, who are the second group to volunteer their services at LBJ Hospital, are Dr. James Gebhard an orthopedic and spinal surgeon, Dr Harold Walker a radiologist and Dr Eric Carter a cardiologist. The doctors are assisted by their wives.

Also with this group was Dr. Audrey Tarr, a urogynecologist, and her engineer husband Elder David Tarr, who left two months ago.

In addition to seeing patients, the LDS missionaries are transferring their knowledge to build local capacity of staff in their field of expertise.

At a press conference yesterday the Chief Medical Officer of LBJ, Dr, Joseph Shumway, announced that the LDS missionary program with LBJ will continue after the current group ends their two year mission next year.
