The territory’s newest park is being developed on 8 acres of government land in the village of Vaitogi.

It’s one of the projects that’s listed in the ASG report on the spending of the $36 million surplus from Fiscal Year 2023.

According to the report, $839,340 has been spent on the project and the three companies contracted for the work are Vilisoni & Sons, Howards Building Development, and Titanic Corporation.

According to the report, the investments made in the Vaitogi Park project aims “to enhance both the functionality and aesthetics of the park.

“Allocated funds were utilized for key components such as construction of a sturdy retaining wall and a well designed walkway, ensuring a significant improvement in overall park infrastructure.”

Parks and Recreation Director Ken Tupua says clearing of the park land started last year. It will include a 27-hole miniature putt putt golf course, 8 Samoan fales, and a wading pool. There are also plans to build a pavilion, concession stands and a fair sized parking lot.

Tupua says the Parks and Recreation portion of the park development is funded with a $1.2 million grant from the Land and Water Conservation Fund, which is under the National Park Service.
