There won’t be a Flag Day Fautasi Race tomorrow, Tuesday, April 16 as planned.
An announcement from the Governor’s Office this afternoon said due to concerns of bad weather, and for the safety of all fautasi crew, it has been decided that the fautasi race be postponed. This decision was made at a meeting called by the Flag Day Fautasi Race Committee, which included Lt. Governor Laapui Talauega Eleasalo Ale, Secretary of Samoan Affairs Mauga Tasi Asuega and all fautasi captains and village representatives.
The announcement said this was a unanimous decision supported by all captains and the general consensus was to have a race not only when it is calm, but to allow for a longer race as originally planned.
The race has now been rescheduled for next Tuesday, April 23rd.
