
A 38-year-old Samoan man getting paid $12.5 million to settle a lawsuit with the Honolulu Police Department was arraigned in federal court, Wednesday, after he was charged with gun and drug crimes.
New court documents reveal Jonaven Perkins-Sinapati tossed a bag from his SUV before police pulled him over in Waianae, last Thursday.
Officers found a ghost gun, ammunition, 108 grams of meth in the bag, and more meth in his SUV.
He’s also been charged with state firearms offenses.
The 38-year-old was awarded $12.5 million from the city after settling a lawsuit over a 2021 police chase in Makaha.
He’ll be back in federal court on Tuesday.
