Agreement allows direct SMS/text messages between BlueSky and ASTCA

An agreement signed between the CEO’s of BlueSky and the American Samoa Telecommunications Authority now allows customers of both companies to send SMS or text messages to each other, BlueSky to ASTCA or ASTCA to BlueSky. Such services between the two networks were extremely limited until now.

The direct SMS Peering Agreement was signed by BlueSky CEO Justin Tuiasosopo and ASTCA CEO Chuck Leota.

A joint statement from the two companies said not only will customers be able to communicate through text messages, this will also enhance customers’ experience and achieves the shared goal for both local Telecommunication Providers which is, “to keep the island connected.”

CEO of BlueSky Justin Tuiasosopo, said, “Having this service available for our customers and community has been in discussion for quite some time. We are grateful for this collaboration to partner with ASTCA in providing SMS Peering, which is what telcos around the world are already experiencing.”

He added, “We look forward to working closely together to further close the digital divide, and sharing resources to deliver services, technology and experience our customers deserve and expect of us.”

ASTCA’s CEO, Chuck Leota, says, “We are excited for Bluesky to share in this longstanding commitment, contributing to improved user experience for subscribers on both networks. Enhancing our carrier networks for disaster resilience, security, and redundancy is critical for our island community.”
