Some good news from Treasury. Treasurer Malemo Tausaga announced that tax refunds for those who filed their tax returns between February 1st and February 29th will be released today, September 9.
The last time tax refunds were released was on June 21st, and that was Batch #6, which covered those who filed from February 14 to February 21 partially.
The checks will be distributed through direct deposits to bank accounts, and also through the Disbursing Office.
Just over a week ago, four women stood with signs at Utulei Beach saying, “We want our tax refunds now.” Organizer Sigalu Sitagata Tinitali said even though only four showed up for the wave, she felt that the purpose of the wave had been served.
The late release of tax refund checks has consistently come up during hearings in both
the House and Senate.
