ASCC Congressional Forum: The Environment

The environment was among questions that the four congressional candidates were asked during the American Samoa  Community College Forum, last Thursday.

They were asked: “Given the unique ecological challenges facing American Samoa, what legislative measures would you support to protect our natural resources while promoting sustainable development?”

As with her answers to previous questions, candidate Meleagi Suitonu Chapman believed that environmental protection required funding.

In her reply, candidate Luisa Kuaea quoted a native American proverb, “We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children.” She said she will push legislation to support eco-friendly measures to keep American Samoa’s environment safe and protected.

Rosie Tago Lancaster said whatever measures are in place to protect our environment must be supported by everyone.
