Ballot forms for the veto override referendum have been printed and local absentee voters who cast ballots yesterday were the first to vote on the proposed constitutional amendment.

Twenty-nine voters who are traveling off island and won’t be back in time for the November 5th general elections, voted yesterday.

The total number of  local absentee voters who have cast ballots is 226.

It’s not clear how the Election Office will accommodate those absentee voters who had cast ballots before yesterday, regarding the veto override referendum.

Deputy Election Commissioner Fiti Tavai said they are discussing this issue with the legal counsel to the Election Office to ensure compliance with election law.

The number of off-island absentee ballots received as of yesterday is 10.

Yesterday was the deadline for voters to register for the general election, and the tally as of 4:30 pm was 15,945.
