Village spay and neuter clinics a success

The Spay and Neuter village outreach clinics performed a total of 675 surgeries during the 24-day outreach. That’s 562 dogs, 112 cats and 1 pig.

Nineteen villages were covered and, for the first time in many years, Manu’a was included in the outreach.

Veterinarian Dr. Stanley Rota said the desexing of this many animals means that thousands of cats and dogs would not be added to the animal population on the island.

Dr. Kathleen Riley who traveled from Boston, Massachusetts on behalf of Coconut Mutts which partnered with the Department of Health and other ASG departments in sponsoring the village clinics,  agrees that the outreach was a success.

She also believes that having the Animal Clinic provide spay and neuter services regularly has also made a difference.
