The extradition of fugitive Barry Aileone from Alaska required cooperation between the governments of American Samoa and the state of Alaska.

Attorney General Fainuulelei Alailima-Utu explained that the Criminal Division of the AG’s Office has been working with several agencies including the Department of Public Safety, Federal Bureau of Investigations, Department of Justice and the District Attorney’s Office for Anchorage, Alaska to secure the return of Aileone to the territory.

An arrest warrant was issued in 2022 for Aileone on a charge of child molestation stemming from incidents in 2016. By then, he had fled the territory.

The AG said with the assistance of the FBI and DOJ, officers from the Department of Public Safety flew to Anchorage last Thursday, and escorted Aileone back to the territory on Monday night.

Ailone had his initial appeareance in District Court Tuesday, and his bail was increased from $25,000 to $30,000.
