
The Chief Financial Officer of the LBJ Tropical Medical Center, Sefanaia Kaumaitotoya, has been fired.
This was confirmed by the Chairman of the LBJ Hospital Authority Board, Mualeava Dr. Aifili John Tufa.
The chairman declined to give details on the reasons why Kaumaitotoya’s services have been terminated.
He only said that it was a number of unsatisfactory performances leading up to violation of procurement processes where LBJ assets were spent without following proper protocols.
The chairman added, “It is never easy to make these type of decisions and the board has spent many hours deliberating before a motion and vote was made.”
KHJ News understands that the Hospital Authority Board made the decision to fire Kaumaitotoya at a meeting on Tuesday.
Kaumaitotoya has been CFO of LBJ since April of 2023.
An announcement of his appointment by then-CEO of the LBJ Hospital, Dr. Akapusi Ledua, said that Kaumaitotoya had worked as a financial controller and staff accountant with various health care facilities in Honolulu for over five years with distinction.
Before he was appointed CFO, Kaumaitotoya had been retained by the hospital as a financial consultant. He also worked at thee Territorial Bank of American Samoa.
