The Department of Education on Thursday honored three elementary school teachers who are recipients of the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching. They are Loretta Mapu Atonio of Fagalii Elementary School, Nellie Stowers of Manulele Tausala Elementary, and Danielle Aina of Laulii Elementary School.
The Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST) are the top honors bestowed by the U.S. Government to K-12 STEM teachers.
Each year, up to 110 outstanding educators from across the country may be recognized by the White House for their passion, dedication, and impact in the classroom.
The awards are administered by the National Science Foundation on behalf of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. Awardees get an all expenses trip to Washington DC to attend a recognition ceremony and a $10,000 grant from the National Science Foundation.
Director of Education Maefau Dr. Mary Taufetee congratulated the three teachers and commended them for attaining this prestigious recognition.
