Wednesday was a day of celebration for the village of Pavaiai. Its high tech fautasi named Le Fale o Latia was dedicated at the boat shed in Pago Pago.
Chiefs and orators of the village led by Senator Tuanaitau Malaki Togiola along with church ministers of Pavaiai were joined by senators and representatives at the dedication ceremony.
It’s the latest fautasi to be built by local boat builder Leotiti Maselio Ioane.
The total cost of the long boat which will have its debut in the 2025 Flag Day fautasi race is close to $200,000.
The money was raised through donations and fundraising by the village.
The wife of Sen Tuanaitau, Mrs Tiana Togiola, performed the ribbon cutting and church ministers blessed the new fautasi.
