Muliufi Hannemann is stepping down as chair of the Hawaii Tourism Authority Board, though he will remain on the board of directors.
It comes after fellow board members questioned Hannemann about events held at the Hawaii Convention Center for two nonprofits that Hannemann oversees.
Hawaii News Now reports documents show both events were billed to HTA.
Hannemann said in a statement that at no time did he ask for favorable treatment or “freebies,” and that the state auditor found no fraud.
Todd Apo, CEO of nonprofit Iole, was selected as the new board chair.
