
The Elementary Division Music Festival opened Tuesday morning at the DYWA Center in Tafuna.
With the theme, “United Through Music,” 17 public elementary schools from Tutuila, Aunuu and Manu’a, are competing in the two day festival. Rev. Alama Solofa of the CCCAS in Vailoa, who gave the invocation, talked about the role of music in expressing moods and feelings, documenting memories and historical events, and giving praise to God.
Deputy Director of Education for Instructional Support Lance Glodoswki welcomed all the participating schools and surprised the students with a rendition of the Creedence Clearwater Revival song, “Down by the Corner.”
The categories for first day are solo, song writing and recording choirs. Wednesday will be the choir competition, based on a selected song and a selection by each school.
The High School Music Festival is set for Thursday.
