The Acting Principal of Tafuna Elementary School Daniel Fuimaono says 8 classrooms at the school, which the Environmental Health Division of Public health recommended to be closed after an inspection on Tuesday, are not being used.

He told KHJ News that classes which were held in these classrooms have been moved to other classrooms, while they clean up the affected classrooms.

According to Aileen Solaita, who heads the Environmental Division of DOH, their inspections found rodent feces in half of the classrooms at the school, and they recommended that the whole school be closed and a major clean up be conducted.

She said teachers and students have informed the inspectors about finding dead rats in classrooms and teachers complained that they have repeatedly asked for Clorox wipes and cleaning supplies, but have not received them.

DOH cordoned off the school’s main gate with yellow tape and posted several “CLOSED” signs on school buildings. The signs said that the school had been inspected by the Environmental Health Services and find them non compliant nor meet sanitation practices/requirements with significant violations.
