For the first time in the U.S. Navy’s 250-year history, Navy Week will be celebrated in American Samoa next week.
The program has served as the Navy’s primary outreach effort to areas of the nation with little to no Navy presence.
The ASG Office of Veterans and Military Affairs is assisting in coordinating events for the celebration.
Deputy Director Arriaana Princess Auvaa said American Samoans are part of the U.S. Navy team that will be here for the event, and their profiles are being featured on the ASG Office of Veterans and Military Affairs Facebook page.
The event will kick off with a ceremony at the Veterans Monument next Tuesday at 9 a.m. There will be school visits, meetings with ASG departments, outreach activities, and a cleanup of Lions Park. Additionally, there will be an exhibition softball game between the visiting U.S. Navy sailors and local Army soldiers. The game is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 15, at Tony Solaita Field in Tafuna.
The U.S. Navy band will also perform during the Arts Council Flag Day Festival and the Flag Day ceremony. During Navy Week, a recruiting station for the Navy will be set up at the Mosooi Building on Wednesday of next week.
