Former Deputy Director of Education Faauifono Vaitautolu has won the Special Election for Manu’a District #1 held today. She becomes the first woman to ever win a House election in Manu’a.
Vaitautolu won 203 votes, while Paepaetele Mapu Jamias received 128 votes.
Mailo Oge T. Nua received 48 votes, while Leifitele Aliitama Sotoa was 5 votes behind with 43 votes.
A teacher by profession, Vaitautolu was Deputy Director of Education for close to 10 years and retired at the start of the Lemanu Talauega administration. This is her first attempt for political office and becomes the only female member of the House of Representatives for the 38th Legislature.
Vaitautolu continues the term of the late Rep. Alumamalu Ale Filoalii, who passed away in June.
