Samoa’s Ministry of Health (M.O.H.) has warned of the continuing increase of dengue-like illness after 65 new cases were identified in the period between April 29 and May 5.

TV1 Samoa News reports there has been no change in the rate of infections even after the national clean-up campaign started, when MOH declared a dengue outbreak April 19.

Meanwhile, the spraying of schools and office buildings nationwide continues.

A national media campaign has also been launched to get rid of rubbish and containers that collect water and has become breeding sites for the mosquitoes.

Here in the territory, the Department of Health has started spraying school campuses to protect against dengue fever. Last Friday, DOH sprayed Kananafou Elementary, Manumalo Academy and Pacific Horizons.

On Monday, they moved to Tafuna High School, Nu’uuli Vocational technical High School and Kananafou High School.

On Tuesday, they sprayed Tafuna Elementary, Lupelele Elementary and Manulele Elementary.
