A third woman has announced her candidacy for American Samoa’s Congressional race.
Meleagi Suitonu-Chapman said in a statement that she pledges to address all the “critical issues affecting our home, from welfare and health to education and safety.”
She said she has specific plans to improve access to healthcare, enhance educational opportunities and ensure the safety and security of the territory. She is also committed to preserving and enhancing “the beauty, creativity, intellect and talents” of American Samoa.
Suitonu-Chapman said her passion and dedication to American Samoa and extensive experience and commitment has prepared her to represent the territory effectively in Washington DC.
The candidate lists Ta’u, Manu’a as her home. She says her father, Elder Suitonu, has been a guiding force in her life and has taught her that “the past does not drive humans. The future pulls us forward to what we’re committed to.”
She declared, “I am committed to you, your children, our government and our veterans and I am ready to work tirelessly to serve you.”
This will be Suitonu-Chapman’s fifth
run for American Samoa’s seat in the US House of Representatives.
Others in the race are incumbent Congresswoman Uifaatali Amata and Luisa Kuaea.
