Rtd. CSM Iuniasolua Savusa receives top infantry award

Retired Command Sgt. Major Iuniasolua Tului Savusa has been honored with the highest award the Chief of Infantry can present, the Doughboy Award.

He was presented the award in a ceremony at the National Infantry Museum in Columbus, Georgia on September 10.

The purpose of the award is to honor infantrymen that have made significant and lasting contributions to the infantry and infantry community.

Rtd. CSM Savusa began his military career June 17, 1975. He spent the majority of his career in infantry, ranger, air assault, and airborne organizations. He served in leadership positions at every echelon as a Team Leader to First Sergeant. He also served as a Drill Sergeant, Senior Air Assault Instructor, Chief Instructor Light Fighters Infantry Course, Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) Instructor, Battalion Training and Operations NCO, Brigade Operations Sergeant Major, and Command Sergeant Major.

He did three tours in Afghanistan and one in Iraq and was awarded numerous medals during his illustrious military career. He retired from the United States Army on December 31, 2011 out of Hawaii after 36-plus years of service.

Rtd. CSM Savusa served as Director of Homeland Security under the Lolo Lemanu administration.
