All staff and executives of the Samoa Fire and Emergency Services Authority will now be subjected to mandatory drug testing.

The Commissioner of the Samoa Fire and Emergency Services Authority (SFESA), Tanuvasa Petone Mauga announced the drug testing program amid allegations on social media suggesting that some executive members may be using drugs.

Tanusava said, “We’re not upset about the reports, but I wish they would have approached us directly if they had information or suspicions. We take such matters seriously and we will not hesitate to investigate any credible claims.”

He told Samoa Observer that SFESA is collaborating closely with the Scientific Research Organization of Samoa (SROS) to carry out the drug tests funded by SFESA annual budget.

He said they have already started testing staff including 40 new recruits who have successfully cleared the tests.
