There was a .8% increase in the Basic Food Index for American Samoa for the month of September, according to the latest report from the Department of Commerce, Statistics & Analysis Divison.
Food items whose prices went up include bananas, which rose 4.2%, chicken legs up 2.8 %, taro jumped 2.5%, turkey tails rose 1.9%, and bread went up 1.2%.
In July, a 10 kilogram case of chicken legs was $18.15, then jumped to $18.86 in August, in September the price was $19.39.
Food items whose prices dropped in September include fish, which dropped 2.4%, sausage down 2.0%, mayonnaise down 1.5%, tuna dropped .7%, corned beef dropped 0.3% and rice and milk dropped .1%.
The price of fresh fish was $5.40/lb in July then dipped to $5.28 in August, and last month it was $5.16/lb.
Meanwhile, the price of water, saimin, sugar and eggs did not change.
