In our news this morning, we said there was no official announcement from the Governor’s Office about the appointment of High Chief Faiivae Alex Godinet Iuli as Secretary of Samoan Affairs.
However, a memo appointing Faiivae to the position was distributed to directors last night.
In the memo dated January 7, Governor Pulaalii Nikolao Pula says, “Pursuant to Article IV, Sections 4 and 7 of the Revised Constitution of American Samoa (RCAS), I herewith appoint Faiivae Alexander Godinet as Secretary of Samoan Affairs. High Chief Faiivae shall be the head of the Department of Local Govemment. In conjunction with the District Governors, he shall coordinate the administration of the district, county, and village affairs as provided by law and also in conjunction with the District Governors shall supervise all ceremonial functions as provided by law.
“High Chief Faiivae is currently serving as District Governor for the Western District and has demonstrated strong leadership abilities in all aspects of his career as a public servant, as well as in his dedicated service to the church community and village. I am confident in High Chief Farivae’s abilities to discharge the duties and responsibilities of this vital Constitutional position. I urge each of you to extend to him your courtesy and cooperation.”
