It’s the 28th year anniversary of Tisa’s Bare Foot Bar in Alega.
In conjunction with the commermoration of 117 years since the first raising of the US flag on local soil, owners Tisa Fa’amuli and her partner “Candyman” are hosting a traditional Sunday feast for friends, customers and supporters.
The celebration will also see the launch of the Alega Sanctuary.
Tisa started promoting the concept of Eco-Tourism in American Samoa since she returned home from California in the late 1970s.
She said while the concept may be foreign in sound, Eco-Tourism is part of the Samoan culture, and is a gift from God for the people of Samoa for their survival.
Tisa explained that she saw her village’s nature being spoiled through different forms of pollution.
So she spent time collecting trash on the beach and fighting overfishing in her village.
Tisa’s eco-lodge which opened in 1989 is now world famous.
