The 100th anniversary of St Michael Archangel Catholic Church in the village of Leauvaa in Samoa, concludes with the main celebration, the week before Christmas.
Leauvaa is where the people from Savaii displaced after the volcano eruption on the big island moved to.
Many of the priests and catechists who served in American Samoa prior to and after the Catholic Church in the territory separated from the Diocese of Apia came from Leauvaa.
For example Catechist Paulo and his wife Lena, Asalemo Asalemo and his wife Salota, Fili and Losa Afoa, Lafaele and Loreta Aunoa and several others.
Several priests also came from Leauvaa incuding Fr. Maselino Paulo,Fr. Emani Tevaga and Fr. Lui Tevaga,
For the centennial celebrations in Samoa, members of Leuauvaa and their families residing in American Samoa are holding a fundraiser at Fatuoaiga Hall Friday night beginning at 7pm.
Coordinators, Deacon Vaifale Edwin Seui and Vaifale Laloasi urge all those with any connection to Leauvaa to come out and enjoy an evening of games of chance.
