The National Weather Service has issued a TROPICAL STORM WARNING for American Samoa at 07:32 p.m., Thursday, February 08, 2018. This means that tropical storm conditions are possible within the next 36 hours. Tropical Cyclone Gita was located about 300 miles West of Tutuila and tracking East-Northeast at 17 miles per hour with maximum winds near 40 miles per hour and expected to increase to 50 miles per hour after midnight.

- Residents in low lying and open field areas are reminded to take necessary precautionary measures and preparations for safety of persons and protect property.
- The public is advised to be extra cautious when driving through flooded roads and in windy conditions.
- There is also a risk of mudslides and landslides along steep slopes and mountainous areas, as the grounds become saturated with water from heavy rain fall.
- Tropical Storm force winds can cause injury to person and damage to properties from loose items lying about in yards or flying debris.
- Please avoid roadways and allow access for first responders.
