Slow than slow ASTCA internet on Wednesday

There’s been no announcement from the American Samoa Telecommunications Authority but from 10:00 yesterday morning to after 9 last night, there was hardly any internet service throughout the whole island.

Emails were sent to ASTCA Director Puleleiite Tufeke Lia Jr, and the marketing and sales team at ASTCA but there was no response as of news time.

Reports received by KHJ News indicate that ASTCA has run into problems with payment of O3B Network satellite service though its not certain if the almost non existent service yesterday was related to this.

ASTCA employees were apparently told yesterday not to stream youtube  and download files of a personal nature not related to work.

At a briefing after Cyclone Gita, the Director of ASTCA said there was no O3B service and the only bandwidth available was through the American Samoa Cable.

Puleleiite said that with power services beign restored, and more people getting on line the internet was back to a slow pace.
