Family members and friends are mourning the tragic death of several members of a family who died in a roll over crash near Kalama, Washington Saturday evening.
Former CEO of the Tafuna Family Health Center, Ofeira Nuusolia and her husband, Lokeni Nuusolia, a former teacher at Tafuna High School and their 6 year old granddaughter were killed in the crash.
Trooper Will Finn with Washington State Patrol was quoted by KOIN-TV saying an SUV carrying 6 people — 3 adults and 3 children — crashed and rolled over several times. A mother was driving with her three kids and her parents.
Daryl M. Tuimavave, 36, was driving when she lost control.
She was taken by ambulance to St. John Medical Center. Two children, 5 and 7 years old, were airlifted to Randall Children’s Hospital.
A 6-year-old girl died along with her grandparents, Oferia U. Nuusolia, 60, and Lokeni A. Nuusolia, 65.
They all were pronounced dead at the scene after unsuccessful CPR by the first trooper at the scene.
Investigators believe the driver became distracted by something in the car and when she refocused on the road, traffic had slowed and she over corrected, leading her SUV into the median.
Troopers said the SUV rolled over possibly twice before coming to a rest on its top.
In a statement this morning, Congresswoman Aumua Amata expressed condolences to the family of the victims.
She said, “I was saddened to hear that some of our own in the state of Washington experienced great loss over the weekend.
“Our hearts are with them as they grieve and remember their loved ones. We also pray for the full recovery of the survivors of this tragedy. May God send His peace to these dear families, and comfort the entire community in their loss. The thoughts and prayers of the people of our islands are with them, and may God bless in this time with unity, strength and love.”
