Tafuna Elementary School is the third elementary school in the territory to get a gymnasium.
Ground was broken Friday for the Tafuna Gym which will be built by Lighthouse Builders, a local company owned by Maaelopa Bob Tuiasosopo. Public Works Director Faleosina Voigt said the contract is for five months but she hoped it would be finished in three months so that 8th grade students will get to use it before they leave Tafuna.
Nine contractors submitted bids for the 140 x 70 gym building and the winning bid by Lighthouse was $444,431.
Governor Lolo Moliga led ASG officials at the ground breaking ceremony which was attended by leaders of Nu’uuli village, lawmakers, the DOI Field Representative, DOE Director and the contractor.
The other elementary schools with gymnasiums are Aua and Matafao.
